Clinicians We’d Send Our Own Family To

How We Build This Team

We don’t hire to fill gaps in a schedule. Every clinician at Riverside goes through a multi-stage process — credential verification, clinical interviews, a values conversation — before they ever meet a patient. We’ve turned down people with impressive CVs because something felt off. We’ve hired people who were newer because everything felt right.

What we look for isn’t just licensure and training — though both matter. It’s whether someone can sit with a patient who’s in real pain and stay curious instead of running through a protocol. It’s whether they’re honest about the limits of what they can help with. It’s whether they’d say “I think you need a different kind of support” even if that means losing the appointment.

The bar is simple: would we send our own family member to this person? If the answer isn’t a clear yes, they’re not on this team.

Finding the Right Fit for You

Credentials are a starting point, not the whole picture. A therapist or psychiatrist can be technically excellent and still not be the right person for you. Some patients do their best work with someone calm and measured. Others need someone who’ll push back. Some want a clinician who shares their faith. Some need someone who’s worked specifically with athletes, or trauma, or kids who won’t talk.

Use the filters above to narrow by specialty, age group, or what you’re dealing with. Read the bios. If you’re not sure who to pick, call us — our intake team knows each provider personally and can make a real recommendation, not just whoever has the next open slot.

And if a first session doesn’t click, tell us. A mismatch isn’t a failure — it’s useful information. We’ll help you find someone who fits.

Frequently Asked

What’s the difference between a therapist and a psychiatrist?
Therapists (licensed counselors, social workers, and counseling residents) focus on talk-based treatment — working through patterns, relationships, trauma, and mental health challenges through conversation and skill-building. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who diagnose and manage psychiatric conditions, primarily through medication. Many patients work with both: a therapist for the ongoing work and a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner for medication management. Our team includes all three types, and they collaborate when it’s helpful.
How do I know which provider is right for me?
Start with what you’re dealing with — anxiety, depression, relationship issues, a child who’s struggling, something you can’t quite name. From there, look at who specializes in that area and what ages they work with. If you want a real recommendation, call (703) 724-0200 and ask to speak with someone about intake. We’d rather spend ten minutes helping you find the right fit than have you book with the wrong person.
Are you accepting new patients in Ashburn and Leesburg?
Yes — most providers are currently accepting new patients, and we typically have same-week appointments available in both Ashburn and Leesburg. Book online or call (703) 724-0200 to get started.
Do you offer telehealth therapy and psychiatry in Virginia?
Yes. Most providers offer telehealth for patients anywhere in Virginia — including therapy sessions, medication management check-ins, and follow-ups. Some initial evaluations may require an in-person visit. See our telehealth page for details or ask when you book.
Which areas of Northern Virginia do you serve?
Our offices are in Ashburn and Leesburg, and we see patients from across Loudoun County — Sterling, Brambleton, Lansdowne, Broadlands, Purcellville, South Riding, and beyond. Via telehealth we can see any patient located in Virginia at the time of their session.
What if the first provider I choose doesn’t feel like the right fit?
Tell us. The therapeutic relationship matters, and a mismatch isn’t anyone’s fault. We’d rather you find the right person here than leave and start over somewhere else. Mention it at your next appointment or call the office, and we’ll work with you to find a better match within our team.

Ready to find the right fit?

Same-week appointments available. New patients welcome in Ashburn, Leesburg & via telehealth across Virginia.
