At Riverside, therapy and psychiatry are not separate tracks — they are coordinated arms of a single care model. Your therapist and psychiatrist communicate directly. Your treatment plan reflects the whole picture. Whether you're seeing one provider or four, your care is coherent and consistent.
Our evidence-based approach means every recommendation is grounded in current clinical research — but always applied to you as an individual, not as a diagnostic category. Most new patients are seen within the same week.
One-on-one sessions with licensed therapists using CBT, EMDR, DBT, ACT — evidence-based approaches tailored to what you're navigating and how you learn best.
Board-certified psychiatrists and nurse practitioners who conduct thorough evaluations and manage medications collaboratively — not just a prescription pad.
Relationship therapy using Gottman Method and EFT; family systems therapy addressing the patterns that affect every person in the household.
Ashburn and Leesburg offices for in-person care, plus secure telehealth throughout Virginia — flexible enough to fit your schedule and your life.
One-on-one therapy with a licensed therapist — matched to your needs, your schedule, and your goals. We use the modalities that actually have evidence behind them: CBT, EMDR, ACT, DBT, psychodynamic approaches, and more. Your first session is an intake: we listen, we ask questions, we understand your history. Every session after builds on the last.
Individual therapy at Riverside is available in-person at our Ashburn and Leesburg offices, or via secure telehealth throughout Virginia. Most clients are seen weekly at first, then monthly as they progress.
Our board-certified psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners conduct comprehensive evaluations — not 15-minute check-ins. Initial appointments run 60–90 minutes. We take a full psychiatric, medical, and family history; explore your symptoms in depth; and discuss any medications you've tried before making a recommendation.
Medication management at Riverside is always collaborative: you know what you're taking, why, what to expect, and you have direct access to your provider when questions come up. Telehealth follow-up appointments are available for established patients throughout Virginia.
Riverside's couples therapists are trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method — the two most extensively researched approaches to couples work. Whether you're navigating a specific rupture, stuck in a recurring conflict pattern, or trying to make a thoughtful decision about your relationship's future, therapy creates a structured space to do that work.
We also offer premarital counseling for couples preparing for marriage — one of the most effective and underused relationship investments available. One partner reluctant? Individual therapy is a meaningful starting point.
Family therapy treats the family as a system — a web of relationships and patterns affecting every member. When one person is struggling, the ripple effects touch everyone. Our family therapists work across a range of presenting issues: a child or teen in crisis, a parent with a mental health diagnosis, blended family conflict, adjustment to major life transitions, and more.
We coordinate directly with individual therapists when a family member also has their own provider. All family structures are welcomed — what matters is the quality of the relationships within your family, not its shape.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most extensively researched treatments available for trauma and PTSD. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn't require you to narrate traumatic events in detail. Guided bilateral stimulation activates the brain's natural processing system, allowing traumatic memories to be integrated rather than repeatedly re-triggered.
EMDR at Riverside is delivered by therapists with specialized training and ongoing clinical experience with the modality. It's effective for PTSD, anxiety, phobias, and trauma-adjacent presentations — including cases that haven't responded fully to talk therapy alone.
A meaningful ADHD evaluation goes far beyond a brief screening. At Riverside, our psychiatric ADHD evaluations cover developmental and behavioral history, current symptom patterns across settings, and assessment of co-occurring conditions — anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and learning disabilities commonly accompany ADHD and require their own attention.
Treatment typically combines psychiatric medication management with therapy and executive function skills coaching. We serve children, teens, and adults — including the many adults in Loudoun County who reach us after decades of high-functioning struggle that finally exceeded their coping capacity.
Riverside offers individual therapy, couples and family counseling, psychiatric evaluation and medication management, EMDR therapy, ADHD testing and treatment, and telehealth services throughout Virginia. Our therapists and psychiatrists work together as an integrated team — so if you need both therapy and medication management, you don't have to coordinate between separate practices.
Most new patients are seen within the same week of reaching out. Call us at (703) 724-0200 or request an appointment online and we'll connect you with the right provider and get you scheduled as quickly as possible. Telehealth appointments offer additional flexibility for faster scheduling.
Yes. Telehealth is available for both therapy and psychiatric follow-up appointments throughout Virginia. Psychiatric medication management appointments after your initial evaluation, and ongoing therapy sessions, can both be conducted via secure video. We also have in-person offices in Ashburn and Leesburg for clients who prefer face-to-face care.
Therapists (licensed counselors, psychologists, licensed social workers) provide talk therapy — evidence-based conversations that help change patterns of thinking, feeling, and behavior. Psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners (PMHNP) specialize in the medical side of mental health: diagnosis, medication evaluation, and management. Many of our patients see both a therapist and a psychiatrist, whose care is coordinated as a team.
Your photo ID and any relevant medical or psychiatric records if you have them — though these are not required to get started. It's helpful to think in advance about your main concerns, how long they've been present, and any treatments (therapy or medication) you've tried in the past. Your provider will guide the conversation from there. If you've seen a psychiatrist previously, a list of medications you've taken and how they worked for you is very useful.
