SERVICE HIGHLIGHT
EMDR Therapy
EMDR is an evidence-based treatment to help Clients reduce their emotional reactions to traumatic events. Reactions can include distressing emotions, panic, anxiety, avoidance, and inability to cope with daily functioning. Physical symptoms such as body sensations, tense muscles, or headaches may occur in addition to negative thoughts and feelings when the trigger (event) is recurring or a client has thoughts or reminders of the event.
EMDRIA (EMDR International Association), states that EMDR has been scientifically proven to help a wide range of distressing issues and mental health disorders and issues such as:
- Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias
- Chronic Illness and medical issues
- Depression and bipolar disorders
- Dissociative disorders
- Eating disorders
- Grief and loss
- Pain
- Performance anxiety
- Personality disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other trauma and stress-related issues
- Sexual assault
- Sleep disturbance
- Substance abuse and addiction
- Violence and abuse
What is an EMDR session like?
During an EMDR session, the Client is given bilateral stimulation (BLS) through eye movements, tapping, or sounds. EMDR is structured therapy; a client will complete eight treatment phases. Click HERE for an infographic from EMDRIA (EMDR International Association) that describes each stage.
How Do I know EMDR is right for me?
Talk to an EMDR-trained therapist to see if it would be a good fit for you. In addition, taking time to research EMDR on your own would be helpful to see if it is something you are comfortable with.
