Holistic Mental Health
Treating the whole person.
More than a therapy session…
Healing The Whole Person
All Riverside providers encourage regular exercise, good sleep habits, and a healthy diet. The brain simply works better with good rest and nutrients.Â
Our medical staff focuses on the importance of your physical health. Psychiatrists and nurse practitioners look for biological causes for emotional problems (e.g., thyroid disorder). They will consider chemical imbalances as sources for emotional and thinking difficulties. When psychiatric medications are advised, they will review the risks and benefits of medication options.Â
We also encourage you to seek an initial evaluation and routine follow-up with your general practice physician to rule out medical causes of mental illness. Â This is part of treating the whole person rather than just looking at symptoms.
Our counselors provide psychotherapy to support and guide you to healing of depression and anxiety.Â
They listen. They ask questions. They listen some more. They will help you uncover psychological aspect of mental struggle and help you to see the big picture. Counselors discuss a variety of pathways forward and empower you to make you own choices regarding next steps. Our counselors include psychologists, licensed professional counselors and licensed clinical social workers.
As counseling helps to reduce stress, your brain will heal and your body will relax. Physical signs of stress (eg headache and muscle tension) are usually reduced. Your counselor may also discuss mind-body relaxation techniques such as mindfulness or deep breathing exercises as way to prevent and manage stress.
For those with an interest in Christian spirituality, we offer a faith-based counseling option. Several members of our staff are available to discuss Biblical principles, prayer, and meditation as part of therapy. Individuals from other faiths and non-spiritual persons are also encouraged to follow their beliefs in order to find deeper meaning and purpose. Faith-based counseling

Psychiatric Medication
Depression, anxiety, and other emotional struggles may be related to a problem in the brain. Chemical imbalances in brain cells (e.g. Low serotonin function) may result in impairments of ability to work or sustain healthy relationships.
While psychotherapy may help to restore brain cell function in mild depression and anxiety, medication management should be considered when significant impairment of school, work, or relationships develops.

Spirit
Faith-Based Counsel
Many people place great value on their spiritual perspective and seek to include discussion of spirituality as part of their counseling process. Riverside offers the option to discuss spirituality, from a Christian world view, as part of this process.
When requested, some of our therapists integrate discussions of a client’s spiritual walk and traditional forms of psychotherapy.
