Dan Towery is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who provides a broad spectrum of mental, emotional, spiritual, and behavioral healthcare to individuals, couples and adolescents. He offers mindfulness seminars and includes mindfulness strategies in counseling.
Dan began his counselor training in 2001 at Liberty University and was licensed in 2009 as an LPC but his experience dates back to the 1970’s at the University of Delaware and Dallas Theological Seminary. He spent 28 years in active ministry and 7 years working inpatient residential treatment for adolescents.
Dan’s modalities of treatment include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rogerian / Client-centered, Mindfulness, Family Systems and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as well as Psychoeducational and Support Groups. He is also a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider and Clinical Supervisor for LPC residents in Counseling.
Dan’s counseling experience includes those who have struggled with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, stress and anger. He offers CBT or Mindfulness training to address present symptoms via a behavioral change process and EMDR to address past disturbing experiences and memories.
Because of his ministry work and residential experience he is comfortable addressing spiritual issues, pornography and sexual acting out behaviors in both teens and adults. Dan has successfully worked with couples in struggling relationships/ marriages who are experiencing distress and discord.
Finally he is able to target ADHD, parenting issues and family systems work because of ministry, therapy training and residential work experience.
Mindfulness is a brain-based approach to develop skills to change negative behavioral patterns. Dan offers a two-part training/coaching in Mindfulness Awareness Skills. He offers a periodic Foundational Seminar on Basic Mindfulness in the community to instill basic understanding and concepts. That is followed by a Mindfulness Psychoeducational Group to instill daily practice and skill development.
Dan is able to address difficult traumatic memories, flashbacks and negative life experiences – helping survivor’s process disturbing thoughts and memories while providing profound and stable treatment effects in a safe environment.
